The Relationship of Interior Design
We set up a time to meet at your space or at ours. In getting to know each other, we ask relevant questions to learn more about the function and needs of your space. It’s always great to see images of things you like, as well as things you don’t like. It’s all good information to help us define your style and needs and discuss the expectations while defining the timeframe and budget expectations.
Together, we review your current furnishings and photograph the spaces under consideration to start a framework for the project. We begin to develop space plans, furniture layouts and color palettes. We show options for finishes such as countertops, flooring, wallcovering, window treatments, cabinetry and ceilings. Surprisingly, paint colors come later in the process! We listen to your feedback, gain more insight and provide honest opinions on next steps.
We show several concepts that strongly echo all the observations and conversations up to this point. We present our intentions for not just the decoration of spaces, but issues such as; the operational integrity of the spaces, how the spaces relate to one another, the opportunities for the future, how the natural elements affect the space, affordability as well as the expense of certain finishes, the interpretation of the experience for you and your guests, and more.
Here we find your preferences for certain themes, and certain items. We often challenge the current thinking to be sure we have covered other ideas and discussions so that we may secure this foundation for our next phase.
Presentation of the Design
We show the focused results of the approved concept. We narrow down our focus and, together, choose the best options for the project. These are placed in a proposal format for your approval to move forward. We make no purchases without your approval beforehand.
Because all phases are done in-house, we are your single point of contact for everything; questions, planning, revisions, change orders, payments, project management tracking updates, coordination of installation, and our on-site supervision of installations. We are constantly tracking and overseeing this phase of our relationship to ensure the work is progressing on schedule and arrives on time, and budget. We support and assist with the project until things are complete. We work with contingencies in mind, and wherever possible have an immediate back up ready. Because of our relationships with our vendors, we have an excellent record to deliver on time. Recently, a client described an installation of 2500 items of furniture as “military precision”.
To see the furnishings and features together in the space, and for them to be in context with each other is a very fulfilling experience for you of course, and also for us. We love to take this time to show you some of the design details that may not have been discussed previously – and show you the details that make it all work. We understand that a big reveal is sometimes impossible but the emotional equivalent of “seeing what you waited for” can be strong. Therefore, we work very hard to provide the reveal moment with our Client to have the first look, and gauge the success of the project. We get to see our ideas come to life and begin to experience a sense of excitement through the eyes of our clients.
